Week One Reactions and Skin Biopsy - May 23rd to 28th

Image
This should be a fairly shortish post, I've been lucky enough to not have too serious reactions as of yet, but I have been told that I should expect serious side affects soon, likely next week, so that will make an interesting post. So far, the main being absolutely mad rashes across my body which required a skin biopsy, a million times easier and quicker than a bone marrow biopsy for sure. It seems my temperatures are properly under check and as I write this on the evening of the 28th I haven't had any temperature spikes for several days, and my blood pressures have been healthy so this is really great news. Nothing much happened on Sunday 23rd, just the standard load of antibiotic transfusions (See below). On Monday 24th I began to notice a slight discolouration in my forearms, but nothing dramatic really. I also began to have the chemotherapy stomach injections, the G-CSF which I was able to avoid during my chemo round as I didn't need the cancer stimulated to reveal its

Chemotherapy (Round 1) May 17th to 22nd

I didn't, in the end, start the Chemo on Monday 17th, but instead on Tuesday 18th, as such this means that my final day of this round of chemo is Saturday May 22nd as I write this. The delay to the start was due to a number of different factors. One being that I think there were some delays from pharmaceuticals, 2nd being I still had yet to have my PICC line insertion. This was supposed to have happened on Thursday/Friday of the previous week, but as my prior posts showed, the chest pains I was having made the procedure unfeasible. I ended up having this done on Monday 17th. And finally the more amusing of the reasons, is that Chemotherapy can make you infertile, so there was a big push for me to be able to... "produce" prior to chemo starting. I can't imagine anyone wants to hear too much about the mechanics of that kind of stuff, but suffice to say being in a hospital room with wires hanging out of you, and nurses telling you scheduled time slots to do said produci

The build up to Chemo - May 13th - 16th

I write this on Sunday evening, as I should be beginning chemotherapy Monday May 17th. It's been strange being back in hospital as an inpatient, oddly enough I am in Waddington Ward, which was the name of the ward I was in back in Lincoln all those years back. I'll take that as a good sign? As a heads up, Sunday morning in this post is a bit gross so, probably finish your croissant and tea first. It has already been an eventful few days, I seem to continuously be spiking with temperatures above 39C, pretty much from the moment the door shut behind me and I was unpacked into my new life. This makes things complicated as I can't have certain transfusions if my temperature is that high, and is also linked to my blood pressure which is continuously very low in the 80 range, needs to ideally be above 90 minimum really. Thursday morning began pretty rough, I felt a bit loopy and confused that morning and slowly began to get into a lot of pain, until finally I was in the worst pai

Cancer Diagnosis and Admission - End of April to May 12th

It feels strange writing this, almost exactly 6 years after starting my last hospital blog (adaminhospital.blogspot.com). Something I had hoped I would never have to do again.  I had, as people who know me, or read my blog from years back know, Severe Aplastic Anaemia back in 2015. And since October of that year, I've been pretty good. I had my life back, playing sport, gym and enjoying a good career. COVID put a big spanner in that, as it did for everyone, and I spent 2020 shielding mainly back home at my parents. Due to the nature of Aplastic Anaemia, I'm not supposed to have flu jabs and travel jabs, but the risk of COVID is so great that it was decided that I should take the vaccines as the positives outweighed the risks. A couple of weeks after my second jab I was scheduled in for my 4monthly blood test. The results unfortunately weren't great, and I began getting prescribed a lot more tablets, as it was believed I may have relapsed into Aplastic Anaemia. One of the s
